Emergency Lockdown Practice

Dear Parent/Carer,

As part of our commitment to robust health and safety procedures, I write to inform you that we will be practising our emergency lockdown procedure before the end of this module.  This will ensure that, in the unlikely event of a real situation, everyone is fully aware of what to do, in the same way as a fire drill practice.  An emergency lockdown is implemented in instances of:

  • A reported incident/civil disturbance in the local community (with the potential to pose a risk to staff and students in the academy)
  • An intruder on the academy site (with the potential to pose a risk to staff and students)
  • A warning being received regarding a risk locally, of air pollution (smoke plume, gas cloud etc.)
  • A major fire in the vicinity of the academy

Students will be informed of our procedures during tutor time where they are able to ask questions. We have two lockdown procedures: a partial lockdown procedure, where all users of the site are free to move around the site, but cannot leave for their safety; and a full lockdown procedure where users of the site must lock themselves in a room for their safety. We will practise our full lockdown procedure where the classroom doors will be locked and students will be asked to gather underneath their tables and their teacher will take the register. This will only be for a limited period of time and, once released, doors will immediately be unlocked and students will return to their learning.

Thank you in advance for your support in keeping our entire academy community safe.  If you have any questions please contact us using the admin@thehalleyacademy.org.uk email address.

Yours faithfully

Hannah Sharma
