Dear Parents/Carers,
As we reach the end of Module 3, we reflect on the various activities and learning opportunities that have taken place in this module for both students and staff.
We were delighted to welcome Simon Beamish (Leigh Academies Trust CEO) and Tracey Trusler (Leigh Academies Director) for their regular monitoring visit, along with two separate Governor visits; we were very pleased with their feedback. Curriculum Advisors from the Leigh Academies Trust have also conducted developmental reviews of several subject areas within the Academy this module, ensuring that we continue to offer the best possible curriculum within which our students can flourish.
The students have also been inspired througout this module with visits from Humanutopia this week and representatives from Young Greenwich holding various workshops covering specific areas of our Sex and Relationships curriculum. Our STEM day, focusing on Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths was a wonderful opportunity for some of our Year 9 students to experience the world of aviation.
Year 9 students were also excited to welcome Paul Hughes, a renowned motivational speaker, to share how learning languages can open an amazing array of career opportunities in the future. This week, the Tallow Chandlers, a prestigious livery company that works in partnership with the Academy, kindly hosted an Employer Engagement Event, ensuring that our students have wider career opportunities in the future.
This module has also seen the students enjoying over 30 extracurricular clubs every week. We have had early morning clubs as well as a huge range at the end of the day. We also successfully launched SOCs, a web-based platform which allows students to register online for clubs and for them to have a bespoke timetable of their extracurricular activities. We look forward to increasing the participation in our extracurricular programme during Module 4; please encourage your child to take advantage of the opportunities on offer.
A reminder that tomorrow, Friday 11th February 2022 is an Academy INSET day. The Academy will be closed to all students for staff training and development, apart from those who are required to attend a scheduled examination. Students attending the examination have been notified separately.
The Academy will re-open to all students at the usual time on Monday 21st February 2022 after the Early Spring Break. From the start of Module 4 face coverings will be optional in all areas of the Academy. The Academy will no longer provide replacement face coverings.
Please do keep in touch with your child’s small school if you require any support, and have a restful half term holiday.
Yours faithfully,
John Dixon
Principal
