Poetry Live Conference – 31st January 2023

Three students can be seen sitting in an outdoor area of the academy, laughing and socialising together.

Dear Parents / Carers,

Year 11 GCSE English Literature – Poetry Live Conference, 3rd February 2023

Your child has been invited to The Annual GCSE Poetry Live conference, an exciting educational experience. This visit will provide an opportunity for students to listen and ask questions to the living poets from their AQA GCSE Poetry Anthology.  This stimulating opportunity for our students to enrich their learning and see the poems studied in school delivered on stage, is being supported through our close links to the Tallow Chandlers Company, who will be covering the cost of the tickets and travel for the Year 11 GCSE students.

The day’s event will be divided into three parts: the first session will look at how students might deal with unseen poems in the exam, both how to think about them and how to write for the best possible results; and the second session will look at comparing poems, whether they are studied poems or unseen, and how to write most effectively in either situation.

The trip details and itinerary are as follows:

  • Students arrive at the usual time of 8.30am and attend their period 1 lesson.
  • Time: 10.45am – 3.00pm
  • Venue: Emmanuel Centre,  9-23 Marsham St, Westminster, London SW1P 3DW
  • Examiners: Peter Buckroyd or Tony Child
  • Depart from school at 9.00am, travelling by coach to the The Emmanuel Centre in London, Westminster.
  • Depart Emmanuel Centre  by 15.15pm
  • Arrive back school by 4.30pm

There is no cost attached to this trip for GCSE Year 11 English Literature students.  If your child is in receipt of a free school meal, this will be provided at the point of departure from the Academy. Please complete this Google Form, indicating if your child will be collected from the Academy or whether you are happy for them to travel home independently.

Yours faithfully,

Mrs H. Panton | Deputy Head of Turing School
