Updated arrangements for the start of Module 3

Dear Parents/Carers

I am writing to update you on the arrangements for the start of Module 3 for everyone at The Halley Academy.

As you will have seen in the news, the Government has updated the guidance on the staggered return for students to their learning on-site. I have therefore adjusted some of our arrangements which are different to those I informed you about before the holiday. This information is subject to change following the latest advice and announcements from the Government, and I will inform you of any further updates if they arise.

The start of Module 3 for all students is Tuesday 5th January 2021. Those students who are children of critical workers or who are vulnerable children are able to attend the academy from this date. All parents/carers of children of critical workers or vulnerable children must complete the form using this link here, which will assist us to plan effectively.

As outlined below, all other students will have online learning to complete, via their Google Classrooms, following their timetable. Students are expected to complete and submit daily tasks for their lessons and I ask that you encourage students to do this, in order for them to continue with their learning.

Year 11	Online learning – Tuesday 5th January – Friday 8th January 2021 inclusive Return to the Academy site – Monday 11th January 2021
Year 12	Online learning – Tuesday 5th January – Friday 15th January 2021 inclusive Return to the Academy site – Monday 18th January 2021
Year 13	Online learning – Tuesday 5th January – Friday 8th January 2021 inclusive Return to the Academy site – Monday 11th January 2021
Vulnerable students/ Children of critical workers	Able to return to the Academy site from Tuesday 5th January. Please indicate using the form link in paragraph 3 above.

It is expected that your child will return on the dates indicated above, unless there is a valid reason for absence. Unfortunately, there will not be any on-site catering during the first two weeks of Module 3, and therefore I ask that you provide a packed lunch for this period.

If your child is currently in receipt of Free School Meals and you wish to obtain a lunch Food Parcel, please complete the request form here. Once complete, a member of your child’s Small School will contact you to provide further information. If your child is entitled to FSM, the supplies provided in the food parcel will make a packed lunch.

I appreciate that this delayed start may impact your family. This is necessary so that we can fully prepare for the mass testing of COVID-19 in school. By following the Government guidance on the reopening of schools, we will be ready with our procedures for regularly testing staff and students. Further information on mass testing will follow.

In summary the planned return is:

Monday 4th January 2021	Academy INSET day: Academy closed to all students.
Tuesday 5th January 2021	Online learning for all students. Only children of critical workers or vulnerable children will be on-site if you have requested this.
Monday 11th January 2021	Students in Years 11 and 13 return to the Academy (online learning for students in Years 7, 8, 9, 10 and 12).
Monday 18th January 2021	Students in Years 7, 8, 9, 10 and 12 return to the Academy.
