World Book Week Festival

From the 4th to 8th March 2019, The Halley Academy held a World Book Week Festival for Year 7. The theme was Japanese Matsuri and during the festival, Year 7 tutor groups took part in a range of exciting Japanese themed challenges, including origami, manga art and a chopstick relay. At the end of the week, the top three tutor groups and individual entries were awarded with special prizes. In addition, some of our Year 7 students visited Wilmington Academy on 8th March to see Chris Bradford, author of the ‘Young Samurai’ series. Furthermore, for the rest of this academic year as part of our IB MYP, Year 7 will be taking part in Japanese language acquisition during tutor time.

However, World Book Day on 7th March was not just for our Year 7 students. Cucina provided an extensive Japanese themed menu during break and lunch and a number of staff joined in with the celebrations by dressing up as their favourite book character or genre.
