The Old Vic Schools Club – ‘Sylvia’ Theatre Visit

Some students can be seen in the School Library, reading books and talking with one another.

Dear Parents/Carers,

As part of the Key Stage 4 Drama course, students must see a range of live theatrical performances. We are committed to providing your child with this essential experience and consequently have secured free tickets through our partnership with The Old Vic Theatre to see the production of ‘Sylvia’ on Wednesday 8th March 2023.

The performance begins promptly at 2:30pm and lasts approximately two and half hours with a twenty minute interval. We anticipate returning to The Halley Academy at approximately 6:00pm. Please indicate on the Google Form (link below) if you would like your child to be collected from the Academy, travel home independently from the Academy or collect them from Kidbrooke Station.

Please note the following Production Content Warning: “Syliva is recommended for ages 12+, contains strong language, depiction of force feeding and references to violence in particular violence against women and police brutality”.

We aim to leave the Academy at approximately 11:30am; students will walk with staff to Kidbrooke Station for a train to Waterloo East Station, which is a 5-minute walk from the theatre. There is no cost to pay for travel to and from the theatre. Students must bring a packed lunch as there may not be enough time for them to buy food. A packed lunch will be provided for students that are entitled to a free school meal.

Prior to this trip to the theatre, students will participate in a workshop that will take place in the Academy from 8:30am on Wednesday 8th March. We will be working with staff from The Old Vic Theatre Schools Club team to explore the element of costume to help them develop their technical understanding of the production.

Please complete the permission slip using this link by Friday 3rd March 2023.

If you have any questions about this trip, please do not hesitate to contact me using the email address alberta.hagan@thehalleyacademy.org.uk.

Yours faithfully,
