Year 8 ‘Romeo & Juliet’ Theatre Trip Opportunity (March 2024)

Two female Year 7 students are pictured smiling together in the foreground, as they work on laptops at their desks. Their peers can be seen working behind them in the background.

Dear Parents/Carers,

Your child has an exciting opportunity to see the production of Romeo and Juliet (student-friendly version) on Wednesday 20th March 2024 at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre. The MYP encourages students to see a range of live theatrical performances so that they can confidently analyse playscripts and live theatre productions. Romeo and Juliet is studied by Year 8 across module one, therefore this is an exciting opportunity for our students to refresh and enrich their learning as well as to see the performance studied in school delivered live on stage.

We will travel to the theatre by train, leaving the Academy at 11:45am. The performance begins promptly at 2pm, with a 45-minute student workshop beforehand, and lasts approximately 90 minutes (no interval). Please ensure your child attends school in their full school uniform, wearing a suitable outdoor coat, and has lunch with them on this date, as we will be leaving the Academy before their lunchtime. A packed lunch will be provided if your child is in receipt of free school meals. We anticipate returning to The Halley Academy at approximately 4:30pm. Your child will need to carry their oyster card to ensure free travel for this journey, so please ensure they have this with them on this date.

Please note that whilst this is a free trip, tickets will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. To secure a place for your child, please do so via ParentPay. This space will be held for your child for one week before we open this out to the entire cohort. In addition to the ParentPay request, please complete this Google Form indicating if your child will be collected from the Academy or whether you are happy for them to travel home independently.

Yours faithfully,

Ms K Thompson
