Dear Parents/Carers,
Cultural Capital Week: Year 9
Three times a year the normal student timetable is suspended and we offer an alternative array of exciting, enriching and rewarding experiences which enhance the curriculum, build the cultural capital of students and further develop their interpersonal skills that underscore their successful development to adulthood.
During the week beginning the 17th of July, all students will be experiencing a range of internal and external trips and visits. The full programme of events will be released shortly, and we are working hard to keep the number of paid-for trips to a minimum as we are fully aware of the current economic picture across the country. Any students not attending paid for external trips will be involved in a free stimulating activity at no cost. All paid-for trips and visits will be available on a first-come, first-served basis and all payments are to be made on ParentPay. This payment also serves as providing parental consent for your child to attend the selected trip.
Below, you will find details of the paid for trips that Year 9 students will have access to:
1) Arsenal Stadium Tour, Wednesday 19th July, £18.65, 20 places available
Students will gain a behind-the-scenes guided tour of one of the most prominent, global football stadiums in the world. The tour starts in the Arsenal Museum, before then exploring the grounds of The Emirates Stadium. Students will travel to Arsenal Football Club on public transport, returning to the Academy at approximately 2.00pm, depending on the frequency of trains and buses. Students who are eligible for a Free School Meal will be provided with a packed lunch.
2) Thorpe Park, Thursday 20th July, £38.85, 50 places available
Students will have the opportunity to go to Thorpe Park. During this visit, they will also participate in a TED Talk about the ‘Science of Roller Coasters’.
Students will leave the Academy at 8.35am, travel by coach to Thorpe Park, and return to the Academy at approximately 6pm, depending on traffic. Please indicate on the Google Form if you are happy for your child to make their own way home or if they should wait with staff to be collected. Students can attend this trip in the Academy branded PE kit as this will ensure that they are more easily recognisable to staff in accordance with our risk assessment procedures. Students are advised to bring an appropriate sun hat, sun cream and water bottle in the case of extra warm weather. They will also need to bring their own packed lunch. Students who are eligible for a Free School Meal will be provided with a packed lunch. The cost of this trip is £38.85
3) Go Ape, Thursday 20th July, £26.66, 15 places available
Students will have the opportunity to take part in a Go Ape Trip with Team Games and Treetops Challenge. This award-winning school trip is perfect for reuniting children with the great outdoors. Go Ape believes nature goes hand-in-hand with mental and physical wellbeing and their secondary school trips help create fun, memorable and creative days outside of the classroom. Students will travel to one of the company’s London locations in Battersea by public transport. Students will depart from the Academy at 8.45am and be dismissed upon their return to school at 3pm. Students are advised to bring an appropriate sun hat, sun cream and water bottle in the case of extra warm weather. Students who are eligible for a Free School Meal will be provided with a packed lunch. The cost of this trip is £26.66.
