Welcome Back – Module 5

Some students can be seen in the School Library, reading books and talking with one another.

Dear Parents/Carers,

I hope that you and your family are having a restful break.

We are looking forward to welcoming all students and staff back for the start of Module 5 on Monday 17th April. We have had a highly successful year so far and we anticipate celebrating more of the students’ achievements as we look towards the end of the academic year. Our priorities remain the same as we go forward; a safe and happy community with high quality teaching and learning, progress and achievement for all, combined with the highest expectations of student conduct. Please find a few reminders below:

Attendance and Punctuality

All students will return on Monday 17th April 2023 at the normal time of a prompt 8.25am start. If your child is unable to attend, please report this in the usual way. Good habits of attendance and punctuality are extremely important and contribute to successful individual outcomes. All extra-curricular clubs and morning football will also resume on this date. Please refer to our SOCS system for further information.

I would like to remind you that students are able to purchase breakfast items from 8:00am from our Restaurant.

Equipment and Uniform

Please ensure that your child attends the Academy each day in the correct uniform and with the correct equipment. Students should have at least one pen, one pencil, a rubber, and a ruler, although it is advisable they have more than one pen for a replacement. Students must also bring their Chromebook with them each day, fully charged and their PE kit on their allocated PE days.

Our high expectations of student uniform remain and our students should look smart at all times, wearing their uniform with pride. As the warmer weather approaches, we would like to remind students that blazers must be worn at all times unless instructed that they may be removed in class by their teacher. A jumper is not compulsory and students may prefer to not wear one as the temperatures improve.

In reference to jewellery, a reminder that students are only allowed to wear a maximum of one small stud in each ear, worn in the lower lobe, and a wrist watch only, no other jewellery is permitted. Furthermore, the wearing of false eyelashes, acrylic nails and nail varnish is not allowed. A reminder that students must not be in possession of vapes or e-cigarettes and, if found to be, we will apply our policy consistently. I would like to stress the importance of regularly checking your child’s bag to ensure they are not in possession of any item which breaches the Academy’s Behaviour Management Policy.

As part of our continuous efforts to keep our learning community safe, in collaboration with our Academy Police Officer, we sometimes deploy random metal detector arches and bag searches for when students arrive at school. This good practice is purely a precautionary measure to promote our values, and to keep The Halley Academy a safe and secure environment.

I am very grateful for your ongoing support in working together to ensure that our students can achieve and surpass their potential, bringing the best versions of themselves to the Academy every day. Should you require any further information on the contents of this letter, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s small school.

Yours faithfully,

Ben Russell
Interim Principal
