Dear Parents/Carers,

Cultural Capital Day, Wednesday 13th December 2023

The Academy is dedicated to providing all students with an enriching and diverse curriculum that explores learning both inside and outside of the classroom. On Wednesday 13th December, we will be suspending the timetable to allow all students access to an external educational visit as part of Cultural Capital Day. These days are proudly one of the highlights of the Academy calendar.

For this Cultural Capital Day, your child will be visiting the University of Greenwich. The University is known for its outstanding student experience, its high standards of teaching and ranked first place on the StudentCrowd’s Best Universities in London award in 2023. Our visit will allow students to tour the campus, hear from current undergraduates and lecturers and gain an insight into the experiences and opportunities afforded by pursuing a degree at a highly reputable higher education provider. This links directly to your child’s PSHE and Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance experiences.

We will travel to the University of Greenwich (Greenwich Campus) by public transport, departing from The Halley Academy at 9am and returning at approximately 3pm.  It is important that your child is on time to school and is dressed in their usual professional business attire.  They will also need to bring their own packed lunch. Students who are eligible for a Free School Meal will be provided lunch.

Please complete the permission slip using this link by Friday 8th December 2023.

Should you have any questions about our Cultural Capital Days, please do get in touch with a member of the Hawking Small School Team

Yours faithfully,

Mr J Cowie | Head of Hawking School
