Dear Parents/Carers, 

Academy Timings of the Day

Effective from September 2023, the Department for Education has mandated that all state-maintained schools in England have an increased minimum number of hours that students spend in school totalling at least 32.5 hours per week. 

It is for this reason that I am writing to announce that the timings of our Academy Day will be changing effective Friday 1st September 2023, detailed overleaf. 

The Academy Day will commence at the same time as it currently does – with all students expected to be on-site by 8.25am. Our day will now end for all students, Years 7-13, at 3.10pm on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and 2.20pm on Wednesday. 

Our priorities will always be to use the timings and structure of the Academy day to ensure: 

• Excellent learning experiences across all subject areas and all year groups for all students;
• A calm, professional and disruption-free learning environment, both during lessons and in unstructured break and lunch times;
• A rich and diverse extra-curricular and academic intervention offer both before and after school. 

With our revised model, every lesson will be 5 minutes longer, meaning that students will benefit from an additional 2 hours of high-quality expert teaching across the curriculum every week. 

Our excellent extra-curricular offer, including a wide range of different clubs and societies, will continue to take place until 4.00pm throughout the week, with the Module 1 offer shared with students, parents and carers at the start of the new academic year.
